What is punchout?
Punchout puts The Macomb Group’s online store (www.macombgroup.com) inside your electronic procurement system. It allows your buyers to access and shop online without leaving their internal systems. Thus, punchout makes the purchasing process easier for you and provides the kind of controls many businesses are looking for.
How does punchout work?
Once our eCommerce site has punchout integration with your e-procurement system, the following steps occur:
- Your buyer logs into their e-procurement system and selects us as the vendor to place an order with.
- Our ecommerce store will (typically) appear inside a window in your e-procurement system. The buyer can search, browse categories, see product content, and add items to their cart. The only difference to the user is that instead of checking out, they will click a button to transfer the items in the cart to your e-procurement system.
- After the items are transferred, the buyer places a purchase order with us using whatever process is normal for you.
Who uses punchout?
Medium to large organizations such as manufacturers, utilities, and universities, likely use or plan to use punchout. Roughly half of B2B companies use an e-procurement system and 33 percent have plans to implement one. If your business uses an e-procurement system, we should discuss punchout.

What types of punchout does The Macomb Group support?
We support both cXML “Commerce eXtensible Markup Language” and OCI “Open Catalog Interface” punchout. These are the two standards for communication between eCommerce platforms and e-procurement systems. cXML is the most widely used standard outside of SAP Ariba, which uses OCI.
